Post Paraguay - No Way. Reply with quote
It's been three days since I sent my CV to all the language schools in Paraguay and much to my utter disbelief I haven't received so much as a noisy fart in receipt. I have to believe that there must be some public holiday at play or there's a bomb scare or perhaps a localized zombie apocalypse that has prevented their timely correspondence.

I would expect nothing less! Bloody Paraguayans have deemed me unworthy of the briefest "fuck off" letter that would arrest all doubt! It's a pity, but until I hear word from them and my role there is assured, then there is no point in going!

It's off, it's all off, fate has obviously intervened in my decision so I'm going to have to make other plans... It's a pity, my Spanish was coming along so well. The way things are looking though I'll have to change my language studies to Chinese. Same time frame, same itinerary, different direction...

It's a pity, I had my heart set on going to South America but it's obvious I was never destined to go. Fate has sent me east instead, where at least they have the decency to respond to my inquiries.

Plus, you won't need a bulletproof vest. Just a willingness to ignore all the human rights issues.

It's win-win.

Yes, it is quite safe there from what I've heard although I'm hearing some horror stories out of Mexico lately. Things like Mexican gangs and mobsters crossing the border into the US, invading people's homes and kidnapping them and dragging them back for ransom. I heard some scary statistic that dozens of people are getting nabbed every day. That was my main fear in going there... Getting bailed up and shoved into a van.

The Chinese people are both clever and industrious but the double wammy of socialism and massive overpopulation has done themselves a great disservice, like you've suggested. If all goes as planned I'll get a chance to see it first hand.

Preferably away from the major cities, the air quality and emissions watch-dog is on the menu.
