Since the so called "Man made Disasters" of 11/9/01, international politics has become very interesting indeed, and no place has become more interesting than the United States of ground zero. We've got Leftists bickering with more extreme leftists and socialists trying to discredit the comparatively ultra-right wing fundamentalists.

But what has been done about the core issue of national security?

In the name of righting wrongs, the American soldiers have waged wars, committed violence, and brought bloodshed to broken lands- and justifiably too I might add; but what I can't stand is the knee-jerk reaction! It's a sudden spasm of activity that behaves like a symptom of a crisis and can be blamed for instigating many courses of action that clearer minds might not have taken.

Have a look at this letter I received just a month after:

The knee-jerk was powerful enough to kick our asses here in Australia and although the letter and the associated concern was warranted, the bureaucratic bullshit that would follow effectively destroyed my ability to keep and use explosives as the tools they were designed to be. They did this simply by raising fees and making things difficult. For instance, my license (which has expired) didn't have an expiry date on it! So I'm out and I have to reapply again for all the various licenses.

About $200 for police checks, another $50 or so for licensing, hundreds more for official magazine checks and re-licensing... And here's the kicker, the license to make explosive devices (which every blaster requires) went from $5 dollars a year, to $6 dollars a year, to $2000 dollars a year! Believe it or not, this was enough to push me out of the game altogether and abandon yet another liberty that we'll never recover. I can't help but think Obama is doing the same thing with health-care in America. I Digress, thankfully in following years, the knee-jerk has been rescinded and the same laws do not apply to someone like myself that has held this license in recent history, just to everyone else.

I've discovered this in my attempts to get back into it, get back what I have lost for fear it may be gone altogether if I don't!

So, it's 8 years and change, and apart from taking off my shoes, opening my laptop and losing my drinks and nail clippers at airport security. It hasn't effected me much at all. What really bothers me is the knee-jerk reaction that never serves to increase your liberties or benefit your life in any way at the risk of pissing off some muslims who are already obviously pissed off! For all I care, they can go and explode somewhere else and leave my damn liberties and licenses alone!

I had one more very large and personal thing to add, but I'll save it for next time.

Salut to KrazyKracker for his mysterious reappearance!
